When Sin Brings Suffering
Judges 6:1–10
God allows times of hardship to wake His people up. Before God can change our situation, he speaks to our sin. Suffering can become a mercy if it brings us back to God.
God delights in using weak people in impossible situations so that His glory is unmistakable. We will take a look at the rise of Gideon from humble beginnings to being the leader of the Hebrew people to slipping up after his victory. The life of Gideon reminds us of our need for a better Deliverer: Jesus the true and perfect Judge who never doubts, never falters, and finishes perfectly.
Judges 6:1–10
God allows times of hardship to wake His people up. Before God can change our situation, he speaks to our sin. Suffering can become a mercy if it brings us back to God.
Judges 6:11-24
God sees what we can become, not just what we are. He doesn’t wait for courage before He calls us. We find courage to serve through the presence of God.
Judges 6:25-32
We want God to remove our enemies, He wants to destroy our compromise. Compliance with God doesn’t mean we are not afraid. Public obedience often leads to worldly opposition.
Judges 6:33-40
God gives us power before we face our enemies. God is patient when our faith is weak and we have questions. God meets us in our struggle, and calls us to move forward in trust.
Judges 7:1-8
God limits our resources so we rely more on Him and He gets the glory. Victory is not about what we have, but on Who we trust. God doesn’t make our lives easier; He wants our faith to be stronger.
Judges 7:9-25
God’s plans often come in unexpected ways. God’s plans require our trust and obedience. God’s plans are victorious and for His glory.
Judges 8:1-35
Our success for God can be overwhelmed by our personal pride. Gideon won the battle, but lost the spiritual war. We must choose to walk with God to have lasting impact.
